The second season of MediaCity's Emmy-nominated childrens cross media format The Space Trainees premiers on Tuesday 23rd of March at 18:30 on YLE/FST5. Join the teams from Norra Korsholm and Kyrkoby onboard the luxury space cruiser s/s Blondinbella! For twelve episodes we'll get ot follow them and other teams from all over Finland, as they struggle to win the place as captains onboard the cruiser. The edutainment cross media format Space Trainees premieres on FST5 Thursday October 22th and the accompanying web site opens at the same time. Don't miss it for the world, or for the rest of space for that matter.

And MediaCity can proudly announce that...

The cross media language training show 'The Space Trainees' has been commissioned for a second season for YLE/FST5. Season two will feature the same drama setting as before, but the focus of the language has changed, from English training to native language training.

- This represents an interesting challenge for us, says format developer Simon Staffans - Training a native language is to a much higher degree about understanding the inner workings and the sublevels of a language, which is something we will focus on.

 

The Space Trainees season one premieres on the 22/10/2009 on YLE/FST5.

The cross media format Ihon Alle (The Naked Truth) moves into the pilot phase this coming week.

THE NAKED TRUTH is the feel-good show letting us get under the skin of our favourite celebrities. At the same time, they learn a lot about themselves as well. Using real personality test principles, put in an entertaining and interesting context, the celebs reveal more about themselves than even they knew. In the end we'll see - who's who?

The article "Doing It Right: Combining Edutainment Format Development and Research" has been published in Transactions on Edutainment III (LNCS 5940) which is out now on Springer Verlag. The article, written by Simon Staffans, Annika Wiklund-Engblom, Marc Hassenzahl and Susanne Sperring, delves into the development and research work carried out on the edutainment format The Space Trainees, developed at MediaCity. Says the editors about the content "... [it] contains a selection of 12 outstanding contributions from the Edutainment 2009, the 4th International Conference on E-Learning and Games

Format Developer Anders Wik in the production of Space Trainees

The tv-studio at MediaCity is being transformed into a gigantic luxury Space Cruiser under the watchful gaze of Anders Wik of the format development department at MediaCity, as production of the childrens cross media language learning game show The Space Trainees ensues. The format, pitting teams of children aged 12y against each other, in a battle to win the Captains Wings and the right to take charge of the cruiser, has been sold to YLE / FST for a first series of 12 episodes. The show will air from September onwards, with the accompanying web portal - the Space Academy - opening in late August.

Building on the principles of edutainment, incremental learning and cross media, the format aims to promote language awareness and language learning. The Space Trainees has been optioned into several territories, Australia being the latest addition.

Sveng.com of Vaasa, Finland, is producing the first series. 4xM of Amsterdam is involved in the development of the format.
